[alumNY News]: Hackathons, Books, Interviews, and Job Openings!
Happy February! We hope you are staying warm in the absolutely frigid winter here in NYC! (Lucky you if you live in a warmer area)!
Here’s what our amazing alum have been up to:
💻 👾 Hackathon Galore!
🏳️🌈 🌈 QWER Hacks
hackNY takes on QWER Hacks, a hackathon for LGBTQ+ students and allies, focusing on building queer community, inclusion, and social impact.
Jasmine (h’25) served on this year’s organizing team. Impana (h’25), Genevieve (h’23), and Gabby (h’25), all former organizers, returned to campus to support the event. Gloria (h’24) participated as a hacker.

Gloria and her team created an interactive map called QWERMaps, where the queer community can pin LGBTQ+ affirming places to visit today alongside LGBTQ+ historical landmarks. Each location includes information about its significance, making it easier to explore, learn, and preserve queer history. Gloria and her team won first place in the Preserve track, most likely to unicorn, and best use of Solana.
🐔 HenHacks: Get Involved!
HenHacks is a beginner-friendly hackathon at the University of Delaware focused on building technology for social good. We create a welcoming space for students who are new to hacking, coding, or tech in general, and we rely on mentors, volunteers, and speakers to make that experience meaningful.
The hackathon is organized by alumNY Dustin Tran (h’25) and Diya (h’24), with Dustin continuing to lead the event this year.
Ways to get involved:
Help out at the Genius Bar (mentoring, debugging, guidance, encouragement!)

What people are saying about HenHacks:
Gloria Zhu – I began participating in hackathons just last year, and I wanted to find a beginner friendly hackathon with amazing tracks, workshops, mentors, fun activities, and community. HenHacks did just that. The organizers and volunteers made such amazing workshops, created affinity spaces, and hosted such fun activities (Jeopardy, Lego making, late night Red Bull and board games). I made countless friends and had endless fun! If you are looking for a beginner friendly hackathon, a fun hackathon, or just a supportive place to make your dream project come to life, I highly recommend coming to HenHacks!
