[hackNY News] 2025 Fellowship Weekly – Aug 3
That’s a wrap, folks! The fellowship is over; the Class of ‘25 are now alumNY. Fellows made memories and friendships throughout the ten weeks. As always, it’s a bittersweet goodbye.

Despite its polished façade (okay, maybe we flatter ourselves), hackNY is volunteer-run and only possible due to alumNY like you.
Consider volunteering! You can help make the fulfilling summer you experienced into a reality for others and build connections among alumNY.
You know there will be more details below. But first, a recap on the final week.
⏪ What happened during week 10?
Women & Enbies Dinner
hackNY women & enbies met at the delicious Bunna Cafe in Bushwick:

Huge shout-out to Claire (h’16) for organizing! (The restaurant is really great and you should check them out.)
Speaker Series continued into the final week, finishing strong with two bangers.
Hursh Agarwal @ The Browser Company
Fellows and alumNY met with Hursh Agarwal, co-founder and CTO of The Browser Company. Users love but also hate them for reasons. We’ll see how that pans out. Shout-out to Shy (h’14) for moderating an insightful conversation about startups that instigated a lot of back-and-forth with fellows.
How tech money can work for you w/ Kunal Batra
Fellows visited the Lower-Manhattan Spotify office to hear from Kunal Batra, a Senior Developer Advocate at Datadog who knows a thing or two about money.
Fellows learned to look beyond the hype in startup offers and the myriad “it’s too good to be true” financial offerings that tend to come their way, eschewing them to look after their own interests. (Hint: It’s mostly low-cost, broadly diversified ETFs.)
🚀 Demo Day
After a false start on Thurs due to inclement weather, fellows celebrate and graduated Friday evening at Viam!

Huge thanks to Shy for organizing/producing/MC’ing the venue and show. It would not have been possible without you.

Thank you Emily P. (h’15) for once again coordinating the Viam office space and working around a last-minute reschedule!

Thanks to Eric (h’13) for taking the beautiful photos showcased above and capturing the immaculate vibes of the night.
Y’all are getting more photos from Eric because they’re great.

⏩ hackNY volunteering opportunities
hackNY is only possible due to readers like you™️. Whether you’re a recent or long-time alum, I hope you appreciate that we’ve got something special going on here.

You can become more deeply connected with the community hackNY has cultivated over the last 15+ years by volunteering. There are plenty of opportunities depending on what you’re into, and they can be as high or low commitment as you want.

The point is: hackNY exists only because we make it so. There are no full-time employees. If you’re inspired by passing interactions with hackNY, we a super approachable group and want to hear what you have to say.
Maybe interested in volunteering? This a non-committal form you can fill out. If you do, we’ll invite to a face-to-face and/or zoom-to-zoom meeting to chat more.
