[hackNY News] 2025 Fellowship Weekly – Jul 7

It’s week 7 of the Fellows Program! From celebrating Pride to festivities on the 4th, it was an action-packed week.

This week, alumNY are invited to join the Thursday Speaker Series with alumNY Dan Gorelick (h’16) on live-coding, music and art. Current fellows and alumNY can also RSVP to the annual Women & Enbies Dinner.

More details on both in the Upcoming events section below. But first…

⏪ What happened last week?

Last Sunday, fellows went to the NYC Pride March! 🏳️‍🌈

They met with with Lauren Mushro, Head of Product and AI Research at Sapien.

Lauren shared a ton of valuable advice and resources for getting involved with tech policy: case studies, opportunities, and nonprofits. (Interested? The resources she shared are on Slack.)

Fellows also heard from Army Armstead, executive director at Emergent Works. Their nonprofit builds pathways to success for marginalized communities – a catalyst for change in the fight against mass incarceration.

On the 4th of July, fellows and alumNY celebrated with a picnic along the Brooklyn waterfront.

Over the weekend, a group of fellows headed to Broadway to witness the spectacle that is Moulin Rouge.

📸 Photo of the Week

Shout-out to Jasmine (h’25) for photo of the week! (Read the sign between them 😄)

Winners of the photo of the week are pulled from the 2025 Fellowship Album and win a silly 3D printed prize from Shy! Submit your photos to the album (including alumNY) to be considered.

If you're a woman, if you're NB, if you're an alumNY, if you're a current fellow, if you're around NYC this July, IF YOU EAT FOOD, then come mingle with your fellow women and enbies in the hackNY community!

Help us finalize a date by RSVPing/sharing your availability on Partiful by July 14. (You can still RSVP after that, we just want to set a date.)

Erica Du @ Toko

Tuesday, fellows meet with Erica Du, co-founder and CTO of Toko. Toko is an AI-powered app that helps English learners in East Asia build confidence and fluency. She also does work on climate and supporting immigrant families.

This talk isn’t able to accommodate alumNY. Thanks for understanding.

Music, Code & Community w/ Dan Gorelick

This Thursday, July 10, join fellows for a Speaker Series with alumNY Dan Gorelick (h’16) about the relationship between music and technology, accompanied by live-coding demos.
