[alumNY News]: Happy May!

Happy May! We hope you are enjoying the amazing weather and exploring the outdoors! Go outside and catch some sun ☀️!

❗❗IMPORTANT: Mentors Needed This Summer

We still need mentors for this summer’s Public Interest Lab Fellowship (for more context see here: https://hackny.org/blog/hackny-and-tech-bono).There are a bunch of really amazing non-profits that PIL is currently reviewing applications from, including Bronx Tech Hub, multiple local community gardens / land trusts, TakeRoot Justice, The Distributed AI Research Institute, and more; as well as lots of great candidates to work on projects for them. This as an opportunity for mentors to collaborate with fantastic non-profits while mentoring junior engineers.

Program dates: end June to early Aug, demo day is the first week of August

Mentor commitment: <5 hours a week of supervising a team of ~3 college students / entry-level engineers and providing support with system design, product / project management -> you are basically ideally the project lead helping things stay organized and get over the line.

Ideal mentors: Ideal mentors have at least a few years of work experience and are NYC-based (fellows are NYC-based and there will be in-person socials / hackathons throughout the summer). Commitment can be fully outside of work hours and doesn't need to conflict with your 9-5.

To express interest, please DM Shelly (h’17) on Slack (@shelly). If you're interested but have questions / are not quite sure if you're a fit, please still reach out to Shelly. The program could really use alumNY support to make the first year of PIL a success.

Here’s what our alum have been up to recently:

Congratulations Jacob!

Jacob (h’17) recently got engaged to his fiancee Caelin! Congratulations 😻 💞!!
